Industrial Growth is the seventh album from Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, the acclaimed electronic project of Gordon Chapman-Fox. Marking a dramatic departure from the more ambient sound of earlier releases, the album pushes the project into darker and considerably heavier territory, embracing distortion, dissonance, industrial rhythms and abrasive electronic textures.

Chapman-Fox describes the record as a visceral response to the world around him, taking the darkness that has always existed beneath Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan and bringing it decisively to the surface. The "Growth" of the title isn't economic prosperity, but something altogether more organic and unsettling – a force gradually eating away at society.

Much of Industrial Growth developed from a suite originally commissioned for Roadburn Festival 2024 in Tilburg, Netherlands. The material continued to evolve following its debut, with Chapman-Fox refining the compositions during a subsequent UK tour. Some pieces from the original Roadburn performance were eventually discarded and replaced by newer material that better reflected the increasingly oppressive character of the finished album.

From the opening impact of This Machine, Industrial Growth presents a more confrontational Warrington-Runcorn than ever before. Industrial beats and white noise give way to the oppressive atmosphere of The Wire and Warrington Bank Quay, while Heavy Industry provides a rare moment of comparative light before the album descends once again into the claustrophobic machine sounds of Parkside and Astmoor.

Post Industrial Policy introduces traces of early kosmische music amid swirling electronic melodies, before the album concludes with the noise-scarred Industrial Unrest. The result is a darker, harsher evolution of Chapman-Fox's distinctive electronic sound while retaining the fascination with post-war planning, architecture, infrastructure and the changing landscapes of Britain's new towns that has defined the project.

Artwork for the album is by Michael Cooke, whose illustrations previously appeared on Districts, Roads, Open Space and Your Community Hub. Having grown up in Runcorn, Cooke draws upon his own first-hand experience of the town for the imagery accompanying the record.
