Superunknown, released in 1994, is the fourth studio album from Soundgarden and widely regarded as one of the defining records of the 1990s alternative rock era.
Expanding far beyond the band’s earlier grunge sound, the album blends heavy riffs, psychedelic textures and complex songwriting into a powerful and ambitious collection of songs. Chris Cornell’s extraordinary vocal range and Kim Thayil’s distinctive guitar work help create a dark, atmospheric sound that pushes the boundaries of alternative metal and hard rock.
The album produced several of the band’s most iconic tracks, including "Black Hole Sun", "Fell On Black Days", "Spoonman", and "The Day I Tried To Live". Upon release, Superunknown debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 and went on to achieve multi-platinum status, earning two Grammy Awards and cementing the band’s place at the forefront of the grunge movement.
