Songs for the Deaf, released in 2002, is the breakthrough third studio album from Queens of the Stone Age and widely regarded as one of the defining rock records of the 2000s.
Built around a loose concept of driving through the California desert while scanning radio stations, the album blends crushing riffs, desert rock grooves and dark humour into a relentless and cinematic listening experience.
The record features a stellar line-up including Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, guest vocalist Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees, and Dave Grohl on drums, who temporarily stepped away from Foo Fighters to record and tour with the band.
Songs for the Deaf became Queens of the Stone Age’s first Gold-certified album in the United States and achieved Platinum status in the UK and Canada, producing major singles including “No One Knows”, “Go With The Flow”, and “First It Giveth.”
