Originally released on Science/Virgin in September 2000, Solaris saw Rupert Parkes (Photek) redefine his sound, moving beyond the intricate drum and bass of his debut Modus Operandi into a broader, more genre-fluid direction.
While Modus Operandi (1997) established Photek as a leading figure in the underground scene, particularly through his work with Metalheadz, Solaris expanded his palette by incorporating elements of house, techno and experimental electronic music.
Tracks like "Glamourama" draw comparisons to the cut-up textures of David Byrne and Brian Eno, while "Mine To Give" and "Can't Come Down" introduce a deeper, soulful house influence featuring vocals from Robert Owens.
At the same time, the relentless "Infinity" proves Photek’s continued mastery of drum and bass, pushing the genre’s boundaries with precision and intensity.
This reissue closely follows the original UK pressing and is presented as a 2LP set on 140g vinyl.
