The Ballad of the Boxset
For decades, rumours have circulated among horror fans about a long-lost piece of My Bloody Valentine lore: a promotional box reportedly sent to theatres and drive-ins in 1981 containing the uncut soundtrack on vinyl along with various promotional items. Despite years of speculation, no verified examples of this mythical set have ever surfaced in collections, auctions, or archives.
Rather than continuing to chase the legend, Terror Vision Records set out to recreate it. Working alongside director George Mihalka, composer Paul Zaza, and Peter Cowper (Harry Warden himself), Terror Vision partnered with artists Ghoulish Gary Pullin and Earl Kess to bring this long-rumoured holy grail to life - the very artefact horror fans have dreamed of uncovering while crate digging.
Terror Vision Records proudly presents the ultimate vinyl edition of My Bloody Valentine – Original Motion Picture Score, composed by Paul Zaza. Presented as The Definitive Uncut Edition, this release features the film’s complete score on vinyl for the first time, meticulously assembled in collaboration with Zaza and director George Mihalka.
Zaza’s score occupies a unique place in early ’80s horror, balancing restraint and atmosphere with moments of raw industrial tension. Rather than telegraphing scares, the music creeps and lingers, relying on droning textures, echoing orchestrations, and minimalist motifs that reflect the film’s claustrophobic mining-town setting. The result is a haunting soundscape that has helped elevate My Bloody Valentine to cult status among genre fans.
The film follows a small mining town haunted by the legend of Harry Warden, a miner who survived a cave-in and was believed to have returned years later to commit a series of brutal murders. When the town decides to celebrate Valentine’s Day for the first time since the tragedy, new killings begin - carried out by a mysterious figure in mining gear wielding a pickaxe.
Terror Vision Records located the original master tapes within Paul Zaza’s archive to create the most complete listening experience ever released of this landmark score on vinyl. This edition includes the entire score as heard in the film - every cue, every song, and additional extras - totalling 1 hour and 52 minutes of music, including over 45 minutes previously unreleased.
