Metallica (commonly known as The Black Album) is the fifth studio album by American heavy metal band Metallica, originally released on August 12, 1991.
Produced by Bob Rock, the album marked a major turning point for the band, shifting from the complex thrash metal style of their earlier releases to a heavier, more streamlined sound. The record introduced Metallica to a much wider audience while retaining the band's powerful riff-driven approach.
Featuring some of the band's most recognisable songs including Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Wherever I May Roam, and Sad But True, the album became one of the best-selling records of all time and remains a defining release in heavy metal.
