Houdini is the fifth studio album by influential sludge rock pioneers Melvins, originally released in 1993.

Widely regarded as one of the band’s most important releases, Houdini helped bring the Melvins’ heavy, slow-burning sound to a wider audience. Blending crushing riffs, unconventional song structures, and the band’s trademark dark humour, the album sits at the crossroads of sludge metal, grunge, and experimental rock.

The album is notable for the early involvement of Kurt Cobain, who was originally credited as producer. A longtime friend and admirer of the band, Cobain helped during the recording sessions and is believed to have contributed backing vocals and guitar on parts of the album. However, the band ultimately completed production themselves.

The record features some of the Melvins’ best-known songs including Hooch, Honey Bucket, and Night Goat. Released during the height of the early 1990s alternative rock explosion, Houdini remains one of the most influential heavy records of its era.
