Jackie Brown - Music From The Miramax Motion Picture brings together an outstanding collection of soul, funk, R&B and classic pop from Quentin Tarantino's acclaimed 1997 crime thriller, featuring music from Bobby Womack, Bill Withers, The Brothers Johnson, The Delfonics, Minnie Riperton and more.

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and adapted from Elmore Leonard's novel Rum Punch, Jackie Brown stars Pam Grier as a flight attendant caught between an arms dealer and federal investigators. Featuring an ensemble cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda and Michael Keaton, the film pays tribute to the crime cinema and blaxploitation films of the 1970s while establishing its own distinctive identity.

Music is central to the film's atmosphere, with Tarantino assembling a carefully selected collection of recordings that reflect the characters, setting and emotional undercurrents of the story. Drawing heavily upon the rich musical heritage of the 1960s and 1970s, the soundtrack combines familiar soul classics with lesser-known recordings, creating a warm, nostalgic and unmistakably cinematic listening experience.

The album opens with Bobby Womack's powerful "Across 110th Street", originally recorded for the 1972 film of the same name. Its combination of sweeping orchestration, driving rhythms and Womack's unmistakable vocals establishes the tone of Jackie Brown from the opening sequence.

Other highlights include The Brothers Johnson's smooth funk classic "Strawberry Letter 23", Bill Withers' soulful "Who Is He (And What Is He To You?)" and Bloodstone's atmospheric "Natural High". Each recording contributes to the film's carefully constructed musical landscape, balancing laid-back grooves with moments of tension and emotional depth.

The Delfonics' "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" plays a particularly memorable role in the film, while Randy Crawford's "Street Life" brings an unmistakable blend of jazz, soul and urban sophistication. Elsewhere, Minnie Riperton's "Inside My Love" and The Grass Roots' "Midnight Confessions" demonstrate the soundtrack's impressive range of styles and influences.

The collection also features Pam Grier performing "Long Time Woman", originally associated with her earlier film work, alongside Johnny Cash's "Tennessee Stud" and the distinctive psychedelic sounds of The Vampire Sound Inc. performing "The Lions And The Cucumber".

As with Tarantino's other celebrated soundtracks, dialogue excerpts from the film are interspersed throughout the album, featuring performances from Samuel L. Jackson, Robert De Niro and Bridget Fonda. These short exchanges help recreate the film's atmosphere and connect the musical selections to its characters and storytelling.

While the soundtracks to Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are often celebrated for their eclectic musical selections, Jackie Brown takes a more focused approach, drawing extensively upon vintage soul and funk to create one of Tarantino's most cohesive and rewarding soundtrack albums.

This Black vinyl reissue presents the original soundtrack collection, featuring seventeen tracks of classic recordings and memorable film dialogue.
