Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood - Original Motion Picture Score presents the music from the 1988 horror sequel, combining Harry Manfredini's established Friday the 13th themes with new music by Fred Mollin.
Directed by John Carl Buechler and starring Jennifer Banko, Terry Kiser and Kane Hodder, The New Blood introduced a new twist to the Friday the 13th formula. Jason Voorhees finds himself facing Tina, a young woman whose powerful psychic and telekinetic abilities give the seemingly unstoppable killer an unusually formidable opponent.
The film also marked Kane Hodder's first appearance as Jason Voorhees, beginning an association with the character that would continue across several instalments of the series.
Musically, The New Blood takes a distinctive approach to the familiar Friday the 13th sound. Harry Manfredini and Fred Mollin combine orchestral and electronic elements, bringing together Manfredini's established musical motifs with Mollin's newly composed material.
Manfredini's contribution incorporates music expertly edited and assembled from his earlier Friday the 13th scores, retaining the unmistakable musical language and tension associated with the series. Mollin expands upon that foundation with fresh electronic textures and themes created specifically for The New Blood, giving the film a character of its own.
Particularly notable is Mollin's theme for Tina, providing a mysterious and seductive musical identity for the character and her supernatural abilities. The resulting score bridges the classic sound of the earlier films with the more electronic direction the series would explore further with Mollin's score for Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan.
Produced by Kevin Bergeron and Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Adam Gonsalves, this La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures release also features exclusive in-depth liner notes by writer Brian Satterwhite, with art design by Dan Goldwasser.
