Digger - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features the score by Cosmo Sheldrake for Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu's film, presented on CD by Mutant in partnership with WaterTower Music.
A multi-instrumentalist, performer, composer, live improviser, field recordist and anthropologist, Sheldrake has developed a distinctive approach to music built around the sounds of the natural world. His 2020 album Wake Up Calls was composed entirely from recordings of endangered British birds, while 2023's Wild Wet World explored the oceans through recordings of whales, seals, fish, snapping shrimp and coral reefs.
That fascination with natural sound forms the foundation of his score for Digger. Sheldrake combines woodwinds, brass, synthesizers and organic percussion with actual bird calls and whalesong, creating an unusual sonic landscape that moves between the beautiful, surreal and unsettling.
The result is a richly textured score shaped around the film's ecological subject matter and catastrophic scale, with traditional instrumentation and environmental recordings woven together into a distinctive musical world.
Reflecting the ecological themes of the film, the CD wallet and additional printed components are produced using FSC-certified paper stock.
