Beavis and Butt-Head Do America - Original Motion Picture Score presents John Frizzell's orchestral score to Mike Judge's 1996 animated comedy in a newly remastered and expanded limited edition CD from La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures.
Written and directed by Mike Judge, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America brought the MTV duo to the big screen for their first feature-length adventure. What begins with the theft of their beloved television sends Beavis and Butt-Head on a chaotic journey across America, with the pair becoming unwittingly involved in a far bigger situation than either of them understands.
Rather than treating the film's outrageous comedy with an equally cartoonish soundtrack, composer John Frizzell approached the project with the scale and energy of a live-action blockbuster. His thematic orchestral score is dramatic, propulsive and frequently grand, playing the characters' ridiculous cross-country odyssey with an unexpectedly straight face and making the contrast between music and comedy even more effective.
Frizzell's detailed orchestration gives the film a surprisingly cinematic musical identity, moving between action, suspense and sweeping dramatic passages while supporting the unmistakably anarchic humour of Mike Judge's characters.
Reflecting on his long-running creative relationship with Judge, Frizzell has described Beavis and Butt-Head as a project that pushed him towards particularly precise and detailed orchestral writing. The collaboration would continue years later when Frizzell and Judge reunited for Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.
Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this expanded edition features the remastered score alongside alternate versions, film versions and previously unreleased cues, providing a broader presentation of Frizzell's music for the film.
The CD also includes exclusive in-depth liner notes by writer Daniel Schweiger featuring new interview comments from John Frizzell and Mike Judge. Art design is by Dan Goldwasser, and the release is limited to just 1,000 copies.
